How to become more visible as a yoga teacher? The more visible you are, the greater the impact you have, and also the more income you will make. What are common mindset blocks to putting yourself out there, and I’m sharing some journalling questions to dig deeper into why you’re holding yourself back, and what becoming more visible could mean for your yoga business.

How many times have you thought about showing up for your audience, and you didn’t? You thought about going live on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok, or just posting a video or a reel, and you didn’t? It can even be a blog post you’ve been wanting to share but it’s just sitting in your drafts.

Today I’ll be talking about how to become more visible as a yoga teacher because the more visible you are, the greater the impact you have, and also the more income you will make.
It there’s one thing I want you to take from this after listening to this episode, it’s inspiration to hop on a video, do a live or even create a blog post or social media post where you introduce yourself.

Common mindset blocks that keep you from sharing or going live

Let’s explore why, what happens in those moments you don’t go live. You procrastinate and procrastinate and at the end of the day, you’ll make the intention to do it tomorrow… And then the same thing happens again. and again.
Maybe you wanted to go live, or record a video, or even write a blog post… but it didn’t happen.

Let’s talk about some mindset block to overcome here- what is keeping you from sharing right now?

  • not having the right equipment
  • you didn’t wash your hair or you have a pimple
  • you gained weight and you’re embarrassed about it
  • fear of looking ridiculous
  • fear of being judged by friends and family or even by random strangers
  • fear of being seen – we only want to be seen when we are already successful, when we have our act together.

Let’s go through them one by one.

Not having the right equipment

This is easy to fix. You don’t need fancy equipment. You can get started making videos on your phone. You can make a podcast with your phone and earphones. The camera on our phones right now is better than the one from digital cameras 10 years ago.

And if you don’t know how to set it up, youtube is your best friend. Write down what you need to learn, and experiment with your set-up.

Once your business is running well you can invest in better equipment.

If you don’t want to do this yourself, maybe there’s a recording studio in your neighbourhood that you can rent for a few hours that’s of course a more expensive option but it may not be as expensive as you think.

You don’t like your appearance

Maybe you have greasy hair or a pimple, or you gained weight and you’re embarrassed about it (this one was a big one for me. I gained a lot of weight during covid and it’s only very slowly coming down).

You want to share who you are, the real you and sometimes that means showing up with greasy hair or a pimple. It’s your message that counts, isn’t it? Do you know many people who never have a bad hair day? No! Everyone does! So don’t let it hold you back.

Fear of looking ridiculous or like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Look, we all make mistakes. I have yet to meet a yoga teacher who doesn’t sometimes mess up left and right, stutters or has a weird slip of the tongue. It happens.

When you hear someone make a mistake, do you judge them? Will you never go to their class again? Of course not. We are humans. We make mistakes. We laugh it off and move on.

Fear of being judged by friends and family or even by random strangers

It can be uncomfortable sharing your content or your career with your friends and family. But the truth is, they are all rooting for you! They will be your first and sometimes your best clients.

If you believe that yoga is amazing and you want to share it as a teacher, why would you withhold that from your friends and family? They are your biggest fans. And to be honest, if they are not supporting you, maybe they are not that great at being your friend!

Fear of being seen

This is a big one for me. Having given up a cushy marketing job, I was on a good trajectory in the corporate world and then I started over as a yoga teacher and an entrepreneur and you just want to show that you are successful and that everything is going great.

We only want to be seen when we are successful, when we have our act together. But the truth is, none of us have our acts together! As an Online Business Manager I’ve worked with people who are very successful teachers and they still get The Fear when they launch a new product or course. They still have insecurities. It’s just on a whole different level. And your success will depend on how you deal with these insecurities. Will you let the fear hold you back?

A visualisation exercise

I want you to imagine yourself as an 80 year old. Is this something you will be glad you did it anyway, or regret that you never did it? And also, is there any training you can do to get better at this? Can you do practice runs? Can you ask a friend to interview you instead of doing it all yourself?

No one gets 100,000 followers overnight. Even if you would deliver a perfect video tomorrow, those 100,000 followers wouldn’t just show up overnight. It would still take a while for people to discover you. So practice when no one is watching yet. And they will find you.

Journalling questions

If you want you can take out your journal work with the following questions. You can just pause this recording and work with each question. I recommend writing at least 1 page for each question and don’t think too much about it.

  1. What would it mean to you and your business to become more visible?
  2. What is stopping you from going live today?
  3. For each of these obstacles, what are the steps you can take to overcome them?
  4. If you showed up once a week with a video or other content you’re sharing with your audience, how different might your life look in a year’s time? In 52 weeks, what has changed?

I did this same exercise for myself, and I’ll share with you what I wrote for the question: what would it mean to become more visible?

How will you make THEM feel?

And finally, what I really wanted to bring home today is that none of that matters. It’s about what your reader or listener will take away from your post or video. It’s about how you make them feel. By not posting or sharing, you take away the chance that you’ll make people feel better.

Visibility and your income goals

Visibility is impact, and also it is income. The sooner you start, the sooner you will be better at it and reach your financial and impact goals. Imperfect action is better than inaction
So yoga teacher, in the next 24 hours, I want you to show up, show yourself, create a video, a post or go live and tag me @yogabusinessgrowth and I’ll be there to cheer you on!
